We cleared out/up WAY below the house, likely around 100' below.

I have 5 brush piles to burn. There is LOTSA poison oak and ivy vines in these brush piles so I better wear a respirator and stay outta the smoke?

This is the spot where it's likely 100' below the house. This'll be a GREAT secluded spot for our wild parties.

This particular spot has access to three different terraces down there.

I have given away all the deadwood you see in these pictures. I also have ten logs to go to the sawmill, one locust, one poplar, and eight white oak.

It's almost all done!! Praise God!!

The beds are outta my workshop.

The doors are ALL hung!!

Shelving is ALL installed in bath and guest room.

The counter top is in!!

And the floor is painted!! If you'll notice, I have a few pieces of baseboard to install along the walls here.

And it came. It started around 6 this morning and has been coming quite steadily. I'm guessing between 6-8 inches at least as the car was dragging between tire tracks when I was breaking trail earlier.

You will see the grass growing through the pine straw at the right of the picture. We covered some areas where it had been hydro-seeded with pine straw and will kill those areas off with Roundup later on.

The picture above shows the back yard with butterfly bushes along the bottom of the bank. We're going to put some BlueMoon and red hydrangea between/above the butterfly bush and below the burning bush that is along the top of the bank.

Guess what? We have spreading juniper planted on this bank. See the little green spots?

We had a portion of the bank along the drive erode due to freezing and thawing during the winter. Yesterday we had repairs to the bank done and also added a drive down to the lower part of the property and gravel to the basement door.

This spring we've done some work on the lower flat areas and have done some tilling and planted some blackberry bushes along with some other flowers and shrubs.

Above is where the bank gave out. Below is a shot of the access drive to the lower portion of the property. I'm having trouble trying to figure out this thing today.

I've got two cedar logs at the sawmill now!

Well here it is! :D The front stack and the stack at the back end right is walnut. As well as the center stack on the back.

I planed down one piece, the one on the left. It has a lot of the sapwood but you can see a heartwood alongside it. Now to figure out what all I can do with it.

I am the lucky recipient of some walnut logs! I have one 10' log that must be 30" across and 10 more smaller logs. Now I gotta rearrange the lumber in the basement to accomodate the new stuff.

Here's the butt of the bigger log that I'm thinking about taking a slab off for a coffee table. What y'all think?

It is so heavy, we had one limb break off. I put it in another pot hoping it'll take.

There is one plant in amongst all the pink flowers that has orange flowers. We have another Cactus that has white flowers but it's just getting started blooming.

This is some type of an orchid. Critical me, I told her she should have picked it up to show it's face.

I went out this morning and tilled, trying to fill in the cracks that were created. They were quite deep, over a foot, and some were 2"-3" wide.

I soaked everything down, hoping that would 'heal/seal' the crack so the next time it rains it won't get back into the orignal crack and continue washing down the whole bank.

As you can see from the photos below, I failed to thank God on here for the rhubarb we've enjoyed this year.

We just planted it this spring and it's growing GREAT! I really have thanked Him in the past when we've harvested it and enjoyed pies. I guess I was focusing on the fact the rain had soaked the banks and they are looking as if they are going to slide on down to the bottom. Please forgive me. Now to try to figure out how to 'heal' these cracks so more rain doesn't get in there and have them end up at the bottom of the slope. Wish me luck!

Now we may have had BUNCHES of rain, we're still on top of our hill. I'm not sure how much rain we've had but I do know at one point yesterday, the 4" drain from the eaves and ground water wasn't taking the water away. I guess it was kinda plugged as it did run better after I stuck the hose down there with the water running. Gonna have to get a roto-router. ;o) The news has said, Atlanta, GA, received 20" in 3 days, we must be real close to that here.

Homemade pizza, Southwestern Chicken, on sourdough pizza crust, MMMMMMmmmmm GOOOOD! And we had some sourdough garlic cheese bread to go along with it. MMMMMMMmmmmm GOOD!

This is the sourdough bread that we took to the bake sale at K-Mart. It sold out quickly, guess they like that kinda stuff. Here are a few shots of some of our daylillies.

It's called a sourwood tree that bees make some really GREAT honey from the flowers.

It's also called The Lily of the Valley tree due to the shape of the flowers. I believe there is a bee just to the left of center.
I don't know but I guess that's a good name for it also. Pretty neat huh? These are the last trees to bloom down here.

Now, another question? What type of weed / flower is this? It reminds me somewhat of Queen Ann's Lace except the head of the flower is dome shaped not flat.

First thing, I went to GA and bought a 40' extension ladder. I then came home and went to work. This was the first gable end stained today.

This was before I got started.

This one will have to wait until Judy is around so she can watch and help move the ladder. Then all I have yet to do is soffit and eaves.

We're getting closer to being done with the staining.

Now all I have left to do are the HIGH gables, front and back, and the matching one over the door on the other end of the house. Did/does it need staining? The gable end and the bottom/basement were the same color. Notice any difference? Only problem is, my ladder ain't long enough to do the gable end. :( The whole thing is as dry as you wouldn't believe. I guess that West/afternoon sunshine does a number on it huh?

We've been busy around here, we have 192 burning bush planted along the drive and property lines. I've been trying to cut down the carpenter bee population. They have been keeping me busy. I can't begin to tell you how many I've killed or how many holes I've filled. I don't believe I've said anything about the asparagus and rhubarb we've planted either. It'll take a while before it will be giving us any produce but . . . we have it in the ground and growing. :))

I sprayed for poison ivy prior to leaving for Missouri and I believe I got a good kill, I'll re-spray just to be sure. I'll have to wait until the rain stops or it'll just get washed off.

I 'guess' that about brings everyone up to speed on events here.

My feet are kinda sore but I did get a lot accomplished. Y'all see, Judy liked the shelves so much I made for a friend she wants some for herself. How can I do otherwise than make them? I also re-stacked all my lumber, even some cedar a friend gave me. I ran some of the oak and the cedar through the planer. My that cedar is really nice looking and smells up the workshop quite nicely.

He's been hanging around and sitting on top of the house and we finally saw the female come out and get something to eat then went back inside. We saw her do this 2 maybe 3 times, so I'm guessing they are living there.

I finally have my lumber. As you can see there are some really nice WIDE boards on the right hand side.

There are a few of those nice WIDE boards. Now I gotta get the other stuff done so I can work with this stuff.

This is the 8/4 stock.

Within a couple days of putting these bluebird houses up we had activity around them. If you look closely, you'll see one in the upper right hand corner.

They were in and out of the house but I wasn't fast enough to get a picture of them hanging on the front of the house. :(

Here's another shot of one on the branch.

This is another one I put up the same day but haven't seen any activity around it until today.We have four bluebird houses down in the lower part of the front yard, if y'all want to call it a yard. ;)

I put this one over by the apple trees today along with the other three down in the front yard. Maybe they'll all be full when we get back. Ya think? Wish us luck!

I made 6 loaves of sourdough bread today and put sealer on a couple shelves I'm making for a friend. Besides that you'll see I have the rail along the top started.

And I have the landing at the bottom of the steps pretty much completed. I wasn't able to install all the decking as it needs to dry out and shrink a bit before it'll go in.

We planted this many of some purple periwinkle on the bank along side of the bedroom porch. There is a picture, not a very nice one, of the color next.

Here is a picture of the purple periwinkle, as you can see it's kinda dirty but it'll kinda give you an idea of the color. We dug these yesterday but couldn't get them in the ground because of rain.

We planted 3 of these, Variegated Weigela, between the bottom drive and the basement access.

We planted 40 of these, Ground Cover Daylilies, along the stairway and the top of the drive going to the garage.
Eye of the Tiger Iris, we planted 20 of these along the top of the bank behind the house/garage.
Crownvetch, we planted 64 of these intermingled with the Blue Festuca grass along the top of the bank just below the Daylilies.

Creeping Phlox, we planted 48 of these just past the daylilies along the stairway.

Blue Festuca, we planted 48 of these grasses along the top of the drive up by the garage staggered kinda like shown here.

Thank goodness these haven't arrived as yet as there are only 15 of these Ajuga. They will be planted out back on the bank behind the house.

I couldn't leave it this close without finishing.
